“I attended the NHF’s EDI conference yesterday, where there was some concern about our key recruiters failing to reach out to a diverse pool of applicants. Your message and what I know of The Housing Executive reassures me that we can all continue to be confident that you will apply EDI at all stages and support the housing sector in recruiting talent from a wide and diverse pool of applicants” Tracey Downie - Chief Executive, Women’s Pioneer Housing
- As far back as the 1990s (in our previous organisation, HERA) we were involved in an annual award for the “Black Woman Achiever in Housing”.
- We have worked closely with Race for Opportunity (RFO), the campaign from Business in the Community to develop good practice models in recruiting. RFO is committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities across the UK. At that time, it was the only race diversity campaign that had access to and influence over the leaders of the UK’s best-known organisations including KPMG, HSBC, BT, EY, The Home Office and The Equality and Human Rights Commission.
- One of our Directors sat on the REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) Equality and Diversity panel as long ago as 2007. It was then deemed there was a “business case” for a diverse workforce and she influenced them to recognise the moral and legal imperative to recruit diverse talent. In 2018, we received recognition from the REC for our valuable contribution to their research.
- Research by Operation Black Vote and The Guardian has shown that black, Asian and ethnic minority individuals in major organisations are over-qualified for their roles.
